Changes to Black Box collections from 1 October 2024

Starting 1 October 2024, only glass bottles and jars should be placed in your black box for recycling.

Small electrical items (WEEE) and textiles will no longer be accepted in the black box. If you include these items, the glass will still be collected, but the WEEE/textiles will be left behind with a contamination sticker explaining why.

Black Box Collection service updates:

Following the recent change to the black box collection service, collection calendars have been updated for black box and food waste collections.

One of the key changes to your collection service is that separate vehicles now service your black box, your food caddy and (if you use the service) AHP sacks.

This means that if your black box and food waste collections take place on the same day, expect 2 vehicles to visit your property - the vehicles will visit your property at different times during the day.

What can I put in the box?

Put only the following items in this box or it may not be emptied:

Recycle electricals

Anything with a plug, battery or cable can now be recycled at over 26,000 electrical recycling and reuse points in the UK (how to recycle electronics)

Buying a new electrical item from the high street? Shops will now recycle the one you're replacing for free.
